First Night in Indiana

Well, We made it to Indiana (well all of us but Andy, he was heading home to wellington, and he missed his flight in San Fran and had to spend the night there, then instead of flying on the nice sleepy planes from San fran he had to fly to L.A and then on to Auckland and then onto Wellington.. talk about the long way home 🙁 poor Andy!)
But the rest of us are here safe and sound, we met up with Az, who was here most of the week, she gave us a little tour of Down Town. (its about 10min walk from our hotel, which is right over the road from Work ! yay!!)
Heres a couple more photos from my phone (once again taken at night… I guess you get that when we work all day in the museum…) I will get some good shots I promise (maybe of Neil Young at his concert this weekend in Chicago !!)

Houston Zoo

Hey all, just got home from the Zoo! Its been quite a hot day today and we decided to go for a stroll in the zoo, It was like any other zoo in the world, the animals seemed bored and tired. there were some great reptiles and heaps of birds you know.. the usual stuff!
Last night we went to this great bar called the “West Alabama ice house” I have been there befor and really enjoyed the atmosphere, you sit outside, drink heaps of Shiner bock and Lonestar beer and watch the packs of dogs playing around you, while some real colourfull charecters sit around in their bright singlets and cowboy hats.. listening to “Patsy Cline” ,”The Band” and many more great country tunes.

took a couple of photos at the zoo, and here they are.

Humming birds and Cave trolls

Just @work this week, Finished loading our first 3 Trucks today, only 5 to go over the next 2 days.

Saw my first Hummingbird today, just sitting outside the Museum this morning sipping on my Dr Pepper and there it was flitting around this flowery bush!! didn’t have my camera on me so I havent got a photo of it(not that I would have been quick enuf to capture it on my camera), you will just have to take my word that they are really cute!
Well managed to get some photos of most of our crew here in Texas! Standing in front of our pet cave troll, he went onto his Truck today up to Indiana, I don’t know why but we get the strangest looks from the public While pushing him across the museum floor on his back!! weird huh?

Anyway here is the crew, well most of it and our Little Cave troll.

Work work work.

well, been pretty busy with work, too tired to really do anything that interesting during the weekend too. Just lazed around and tried to do a bit of shopping.. Finaly got me a nice Cowboy Hat, made of felt .. and a bargain at only $40USD 😉
Have looked around for Ski Jackets, not too much around here all last seasons stuff has sold out and the new stock isn’t in the stores yet.. I did find a Burton Hoodie for $30 and some new wheels and grind plates for my Skates, so It wasn’t a wasted trip.
One of my work mates went into the Astrodome Yesterday to offer himself as a Volenteer for the huge Mission of helping the tens of thousands of Refugees staying there from NewOrlenes.
He spent the day Stacking boxes of bottled water and talking to some really colourful charecters. Its gonna be years of work for the people of the south to find homes for the million or so Homeless people!

anyway, I will try to get some interesting photos to put in my gallery.. if not here then when I get to Indiana next week.

Hope everyone is well.

Standing over me ! The small cupboard was filled with Grizzlys and Tigers! huge monsters! I ventured a bit deeper into What apeared to be some wierd Narnia from the Lion the witch and the wardrobe and deeper in there I found 2 Fuckin Polar Bears! Dang! anyway. Work is going O.K so far, And if you are ever in Houston.. Don’t call a cab they suck! They never turn up and you end up waiting for an hour in 100degree weather, twice … in one day!!

Day 3

Well, another lovely warm day in Houston, Greg and I spent most of the day looking at a small handful of Houstons many Art Gallery’s. Starting with the Menil Gallery, Heaps of modern expressionists , Andy Warhol, Picaso and heaps of ancient artifacts some over 17,000 years old. A great gallery where you could get right up close to Picaso’s worth millions of dollars, No barriers or protective glass on any works, just amazing!
The next stop was a Chapel by the famouse American abstract expressionist Mark Rothko
The large Brick building was just one very big room surrounded in 14 Big Canvas paintings each one painted simply with a different shade of Black and Dark Blue.
Our last gallery for the day was the Cy Twombly Gallery, an entire Gallery dedicated to the works of Cy Twombly, there were a few amazing pieces in there that you would usually only be able to experience in books!
After that we all met up in Rice Village for a big feed before heading back to the hotel for a swim and a few beers.
Not sure if anyones been watching the news lately? There is a huge Hurricane moving across the country at the moment destroying everything in its path! There are quite a few people we have met down here that have fled to Houston from places around the New Orleans area to escape the 165MPH Winds and Flood waters ripping apart entire towns in its path! Looks like it should miss us here in Houston completely. But the devastation will still be felt by all because of the amount of people fleeing to this part of the Deep south to escape the Carnage.
On a positive note, we start work tomorrow, yay!! will be good to catch up with the crew from the last trip, Might try to convince one of them to take us down to Mexico one weekend ! Not sure of my chances but oh well, no harm in trying!
Ive put a couple of pics of the gallerys.. kinda boring but if you want to have a look here they are..

See Yall later!

Safe in Houston

Yay, all the flights and connections went well, So here I am once again at the lovely Hilton Hotel in Houston Texas.
What a great flight over.. I just have to say that the new Air New Zealand planes rock! after sitting back and watching “Constantine” Pausing and rewinding and stoping anytime I wished, (all play by demand with about 30 movies to choose from) I converted My good ole seat to bed mode and lay down for about 8hrs of peacefull sleep, It was great! Highly recomend it to anyone traveling to the states(I’m like 6’2 and I had no problem stretching out)!
when I awoke I tried to get through the whole of “National Treasure” but I ran out of time, I guess I slept too long.
The flight from San Francisco was great!, Had a good view of the Goldengate Bridge and Alcatraz while lifting off to travel over The Desert towards The Grand Canyon! I took a few photos but they just don’t do the scenery justice!

Anyway got into Houston about 8pm ish (1 hour after I left Auckland!) (had the usual long wait for luggage, as you do in Bush Airport) then made my way to the hotel with my work mates Greg, Liv and Andy.
So all O.K so far(work starts Monday so It may go down hill from then) 😉

More to come.. stay tuned
